Backcountry Fix

I decided to get my backcountry fix this morning and headed to one of the places that has a fairly easy access and where I could fish almost as soon as I launched. I only had a few hours so thought this would be a good choice. Snook were there and they were feeding on the schools of baitfish along the shorelines along with some juvenile tarpon around which I could see rolling. I concentrated on fishing for the snook hoping to hook up on a larger fish. I fished the mangrove shorelines and lost count on the smaller snook that I caught and got my wish with a larger one around 32” pushing 10lbs who put up a real nice fight. I was surprised how active this fish was with how warm the water was. I had one other hook up with a larger fish who ended up throwing the hook along with hooking up with a couple of crazy small tarpon. Not bad for a few hours fishing. I called it around 10:30, it was super hot out and the bite stopped anyway. Lots of gators around today and I also took a few minutes to check out one of the rookeries.
